Bob Claridge
Nickname: Granite Bob
Position: Full-back
Sports career: Eighty years of age, Bob is our oldest player and one of the oldest regular sports players in Sussex. He is an excellent full-back who is fearsome with his blocks and harrying of opposition forwards. His main sports activity is as a runner and he has run all thirty-eight Hastings half marathons bar one when he had a commitment at church. He is electric over 1,500m and once had a major clash with a rival at Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club which he won comfortably in front of a large crowd.
Career: Bob is from Wallington in the London Borough of Sutton. His working career was on London buses as driver, conductor and at the Wallington garage.
Walking football history: Bob has been a squad member for as long as anybody can remember. It’s rare for him to miss a session; he plays four or five times a week and guests at training sessions for clubs in neighbouring towns.
Inspirations: He is a Crystal Palce fan and claims that many of the club’s good showings during the recent Roy Hodgson reign were down to his informal advice on team selection.
