2023 AGM

2023 AGM and Awards

Report by The Cat

Councillor David Tasker – AKA Beaky – has been voted in as our Players’ Player of the Year. And his long-suffering wife Lou allowed him to attend the combined AGM/Awards night to pick up his trophy.

Beaky also came away with the Golden Boot award for his fabulous return of 14 goals in a Hastings shirt. El Jay also had a great Season with 10 goals and Peruvian Mick chipped in with six. Ricky DLTN was the Hornets’ top scorer with three goals.

Members voted Holy Paul in as the Most Improved Player; Little Richard was given the nod by Coach Russ as the Best Newcomer and Chairs nominated Wingnut as The Clubman of the Year for a selfless season of support for the Front Side.

At the AGM a new annual committee post was voted in, combining Welfare Officer and Player Rep. The outgoing player rep Speedy Steve and welfare officer Doc Dyer were thanked for their hard work.

Treasurer Posh produced a clear set of numbers which showed a healthy balance of more than £2,000 in the bank, and the meeting voted to spend £1000 on a portable defibrillator and a set of fine match balls. The committee will now investigate this.

Chairs reported that our support for charity was likely to top £400 once money from the upcoming Open Mic night on October 30th was added to the pot. It was decided we will do more recruiting in the town centre and also arrange a paid-for first aid course for club members who express an interest. This will include how to successfully operate a defibrillator.

Chairs reported a successful year for the club, overcoming outside difficulties stemming from an ‘anonymous’ complaint about us to our parent club. Our hosted tournament was a rip-roaring success and our participation in other tournaments also went well.

The Front side, under our England international captain Russ Small, came second in the league. Deano was confirmed as new Front Side manager; West Ham Paul will run the Hornets for another season and Russ will run the 060s side.

Some 22 members out of 39 attended the annual meeting. Puffing Paul was given an award for coming back from his injury which saw him stretchered off, Legendary Rog was voted the club’s Pocket Rocket and Jimbo was given the Usain Bolt award for persistent running.
