Report 12th April 2023

What a great session tonight lads.

A good turn out of 18 at the Ark mixed into three competitive teams and a series of hotly contested games played in superb spirit.

Ricky was on fire and scored three smashers in two games. Wingnut and Matty fought it out for goal of the night with two strikes against the Cat who continues his run of form. His two saves from Beaky and a third from Coach Russ denied them goals when they were almost certain to score.

At the other end Gig was hamstringed with an ankle injury which restricted his efforts. Hopefully Colin will be fit for duty at the weekend.

Chairs scored twice in one game with a second goal from Wingnut. And birthday boy Puffing Paul had an excellent night in defence belying his 59 years. Wonderful of him to celebrate with us when he could have been whooping it up elsewhere.

West Ham Paul put in a good shift and it’s good to see him back after a long lay-off, rising Lazarus-like from injury.

The Riddler and Jimbo were on scintillating form showing off their deft turns and trickery and only the Rid scored but on another night they could have had a hatful.

Holy Paul, New Paul and Posh put themselves about all over the gym to remind their illustrious colleagues that it’s not only the club superstars who make a great session. HP had one shot well saved by The Cat and Posh rattled the post.

Deano was back to his vociferous best – I think being recognised the other day by a pupil has shaken him up – and Rodney didn’t score but was a constant threat.

ZZ Nick had another good run-out in defence and as the senior player on show was never off the pace. It’s a simple, beautiful game and we play it very well with spirit and not so much as a cross word in 90 mins. Supportive to the awful misses, applause for the skill shows and a fair bit of Mickey-taking to boot. Proud to be a part of this band of footballing brothers.
